About St. Vincent de Paul Center

The St. Vincent de Paul Center is a neighborhood food pantry and thrift store serving Ottawa County, primarily residents in the city of Holland.  We are supported by donations and with the support/partnership of other area non-profits.

At the St. Vincent DePaul Center, we strive to engage our Catholic community to grow in faith by providing for the needs of our brothers and sisters as we are called to do in Matthew 25:
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
I needed clothes and you clothed me

Who was Saint Vincent de Paul?

Vincent (1581-1660) was a member of a large peasant family from Puoy, France. He had a desire to become a priest, but the family had no resources. This was provided through a man from his village who recognized his gifts. It is well known by his biographers that Vincent came to view the priesthood as a means of social advancement. This would soon change when he realized the plight of galley slaves and farm tenants. Eventually Vincent’s concern for the poor and uneducated would direct him to found a missionary society known today as the Vincentians. Nearly 200 years later, in 1833, Frederic Ozanam, a disciple of Vincent and one infused with his concern for the needy, founded the St. Vincent de Paul Society that today is recognized world-wide for its concern for people in need.
