PRAY 225: Tending to Your Soul
January 6, 13, and 20
Mondays from 6:30-8 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Parish
Jesus gave us the great commandment, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). We often strengthen our love of God through our heart and mind, but not much attention is given to loving God with all our soul. During this three-week class, we will nurture the holiness within by opening ourselves to and relying on God’s grace. We will explore practices that draw us into a deeper “soul-centric” union with God. This will include prayer practices, liturgy, sacraments, and being attentive to the moments of our daily lives. DOC 305: The Four Last Things
January 8, 15, and 22
Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Parish
We accept that death is one of the few certain and inevitable realities of life. But our culture avoids reflecting on the reality of what comes afterward. From the mouth of Jesus, we are told that death is followed by judgment, and the ultimate destinations of either heaven or hell. Death, judgment, heaven, and hell are known as the Four Last Things. In this three-week class, we will explore what happens when we die, the criteria by which we will be judged, and the nature of heaven and hell. The class will rely on the teaching of the New Testament, particularly the parables and sermons of Jesus in the Gospels, as well as the apostolic teaching of the Church contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
